My korean teacher told me that poor korean do not have chance to learn Chinese characters in the old days. And therefore King Sejong established korean number system. Afterwards, more people are able to go to school and learn the sino number system. Therefore, there exists two number systems in korea. Hope this reply can let you know more.
Highly recommend you to buy the Seoul University Korean Textbooks and learn korean. It is really a good way for you to learn korean in a step by step approach.
